Sky Sports are really getting behind greyhound racing and tonight there is yet another meeting live on Sky Sports 2 from 7.30pm. The Bettor.com Peterborough Puppy Derby Final at 9.45pm is the highlight of the evening but there are seven other decent looking open races on the card and greyhound fans are in for a real treat tonight.
The Chris Allsopp trained Smart Bid heads the betting for tonight’s big race at odds of 7/4 with Ladbrokes. He’s won both his races in the competition thus far and looked particularly impressive in his first heat, winning by six and three quarter lengths and recorded the fastest time thus far with a 24.89. The greyhound followed that up with an all the way success in the semi final which saw him get the better of the slightly unlucky Be Real who re-opposes tonight. The negative for the five dog is the draw and all but on of the field will be looking to get to the rails. Even Farneys Mark from trap six is a middle runner and the race definitely has the potential for trouble. I personally like the chances of the black jacket, Newinn Rocket. Winner of the Monmore Puppy Derby, Pat Rosney’s greyhound won both his heat and semi final and arguably has the better of the draw than main rival Smart Bid. The 9/4 on offer with Ladbrokes is worth taking.

Arguably the race of the night here with a field of top class greyhounds. While I very much respect the chances of the ultra consistent Fancy Socks coming from trap three, I think track record holder Mountjoy Rock is going to be very tough to beat. Winner of the Peterborough Derby, Elaine Parker’s dog is a serious animal and I think the 7/4 on offer with Ladbrokes is decent value.

There are a couple of runners with plenty of home experience here including Turibius and Three Steps winner Clerihan Gold but the greyhound a like is the four dog Airforce Newyork. He’s not had an awful lot of runs since been recruited from Ireland but has looked classy thus far and should have too much for the local dogs.
