The Coronation Cup gets under way at Romford this evening, with a total of six heats taking place during the first half of the Essex track’s Friday night card. Made up of 13 races, all the action at Romford is open grade, and can be seen live on RPGTV. Sunderland’s meeting is also due to be broadcast, as they host some decent graded racing. You can see all tonight’s racing live on Sky channel 212 and Freesat channel 401. Here are our best bets for Friday 2nd January 2015!

The third Coronation Cup heat of the evening, which looks to be at the mercy of the one dog, Roxholme Kid for me. Hayley Keightley’s charge has done most of his winning in Ireland, but has been seen to good effect since making the switch to this country, performing with plenty of credit at both Henlow and Monmore. Roxholme Kid can take advantage of a cracking draw tonight and head into the next stage of the competition as a winner. Take the stand out price of 6/4 on offer with Betfred.

Soviet Kenny coming out of trap six has been put in as the 9/4 favourite to land the spoils here, but I think the Mullins runner is worth taking on. Still relatively lightly raced, Soviet Kenny undoubtedly has potential, but he hasn’t really shown enough for me to warrant being the market leader here. I’m keen on the chances of course specialist Hometown Day coming out of trap four. Maxine Locke’s boy definitely knows the time of day here and a repeat of the 35.42 he ran here when victorious in November could well be enough for victory. Ladbrokes go 4/1 about Hometown Day, and that looks like the value bet of the night.
