The first round heats of this year’s Yorkshire St Leger saw Kelly Findlay’s Fleeting Image record a time of 41.53 seconds and jump to the head of the ante post betting market in the process. Ladbrokes have installed Fleeting Image as the 5/2 market leader for the event. The Charlie Lister trained Lonely Boy was a little disappointing in his heat on Friday night and the 4/7f could only manage third place after being forced to check at the 4th bend. The bookmakers are taking no chances with Lister’s charge however and he is still at the business end of the market as the 3/1 second favourite.
Curragh Kewell (41.94sec), Droopys Arshavin (41.98sec) and Wonder Wag (42.14sec) were the winners of the three other heats. None of them came close to the time Fleeting Image posted and it will be very interested to see if the Findlay runner can perform to the same level out of trap one in the semis.
The semi finals take place this Friday night 11th November, with the final taking place live on Sky Sports on Wednesday November 16th. There is £8,000 up for grabs and it’s sure to be a cracking night of live Sky action.
