Sky’s excellent coverage of greyhound racing in the UK could be set to come to an end as an agreement between the broadcaster and the GRA is yet to be agreed. The current deal is set to expire at the end of 2009 and Sky Sports have been supporting greyhound racing for the last 15 years.
GRA spokesman Stephen Rea said;
“We have got to a little later in the year than might usually have been the case,” said Rea, “but Clive [Feltham, GRAMD] and Dave Lawrence [Sky Sports producer] are talking about what sort of schedule can be put forward for 2010 and onwards, and when that is completed I’m sure the rest will take care of itself.
“It is a difficult time to attract sponsors, but no track has come forward and said that they do not want a Sky meeting for that reason and there are promoters out there who are prepared to put forward new races with substantial prize funds.”
It is believed Sky are keen continue their coverage even though a deal has yet to be struck with the GRA.
Sky Sports producer Dave Lawrence had this to say;
“I hope we can maintain the 36 programme schedule and we’re always keen to try new tracks out,”
