Racing Post Juvenile

The 2012 Racing Post Juvenile is a one off Invitation race with £5,000 up for grabs in prize money. Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium plays host to the event, which is also being shown live on Sky Sports 1 on Tuesday 28th February. The best young greyhounds in training have been invited to compete and it’s definitely one of the most interesting races of the year with so many unexposed and talented dogs on show.

Favourite for the race at 7/4 with William Hill is the Kelly Findlay trained Coolavanny Bert. The recent winner of the Primus Telecom Puppy Derby at Henlow looks like a real special greyhound and hasn’t been draw too badly in trap two for this event. Challenging for favouritism is Barrie Draper’s Eden Star who comes out of the three box. Only beaten twice in his 11 starts to date, Eden Star won both the Betfair Laurels and the Romford Puppy Cup last year and will pose a serious threat to Findlay’s charge. The race could well come down to which one of these two dogs gets to the first bend in front.

William Hill Sports

As long as there is no coming together between traps two and three, I find it hard to believe the winner will come from elsewhere. The draw gives Coolavanny Bert the edge for me and although trap one would have been ideal, I’d fancy the Puppy Derby winner to get round in front of Mill Maximus. Kelly Macari’s runner is no mug and has landed the plum draw, I just feel the progressive form Coolavanny showed at Henlow in his last four starts will continue. The 7/4 on offer off the back of those four impressive victories is worth taking.
