Well, a fantastic evening for us last night with both bets landed. Thanks for all the kind comments and emails, I’ll try and keep the strike rate up as best I can in the coming weeks and months. Romford certainly proved to be a very entertaining card, and arguably the most impressive performance on the night was from the Mark Wallis trained Mountjoy Osprey who may now go on to bigger and better things. Our first bet of the evening was no slouch either though and Melodys Express was very impressive in the 8.02, leading all the way to score by three and a half lengths at an early price of 3/1. The 10.26 race saw our second bet of the evening oblige with even less fuss as Munster Champ went in by four and a half lengths at odds of 7/4. Some of you were also on the forecast in that race which paid £10.53. A great night’s work. I’ll be off to Crayford this morning for the Golden Jacket semis. I did a preview for those races during the week you can find at the link below. Don’t forget you can also follow me on Twitter @ukgreyhoundracing.
Golden Jacket Semi Final Preview
Although the best greyhound action today is at Crayford this morning, you can catch two decent cards from Crayford and Newcastle on Racing Post Greyhound TV tonight. Simply tune in on Sky Channel 231, or Freesat Channel 402. The coverage starts at 7.15pm and runs right the way through till 10.45pm and the best part is, it’s completely free! Unfortunately no open races tonight but there I some high end graded stuff. William Hill sponsor the Newcastle card where we do at least have five A1 races in the latter stages.
9.48 Newcastle
One dog really stands out here for me and that’s the Jimmy Fenwick trained Denwill Rocket coming out of trap 4. There are no prices on offer with the bookies at time of writing for tonight’s action, but if this dog is anything like the 2/1 the Racing Post have on its tissue, I’ll be getting involved. Denwill didn’t get the run of the race last time and ultimately finished third but the run prior to that was an impressive victory in an open race over course and distance. He’s an ultra consistent type who has only finished outside the first three home three times in twenty starts. The danger is probably the five dog but our boy should get to the bend first and go on to take the race.
10.35 Newcastle
The last race on the card is an interesting A1 event. Favourite on the tissue is another Jimmy Fenwick trained runner Denwill Star. This dog has explosive early pace but doesn’t always see out his races and I’m keen to take him on with the two dog, Elwick Regatta. Although he’s generally struggled when stepping up to opens, he’s a generally reliable dog in this grade. He comes into this race freash after a 3 dog trial to blow any cobwebs away last time and I think the month off he had could well have done the dog a favour. A repeat of his performance on the 8th of December would be more than good enough.
