An exciting card from Doncaster takes place this Thursday evening which includes the final of the Yorkshire St Leger. The TV cameras will be there to cover this meeting, with live greyhound racing getting under way at 7:30pm on Sky Sports 3. This is the first of three meetings due to be shown on Sky this month, with Newcastle’s William Hill All England, as well as the British Breeders’ Stakes on the 28th at Nottingham.
Saturday night’s St Leger semi finals did not go the way the betting suggested, as 5/4 favourite Farloe Tango crashed out of the competition, finishing last behind Farley Rio in the first heat. My ante post fancy Romantic Rambo made it through in second position, while Baliff Turbo qualified in third. The second semi final of the evening also saw somewhat of an upset as the 8/11 market leader Millwards Teddy scraped through to the final by finishing in third place and had no real excuses as far as the race was run. The red jacket of Droopys Hawaii led all the way and scored at rewarding odds of 12/1, with Rearguard Bond coming through in second spot.
I’m going to stick with trap five Romantic Rambo in the final and I’m quietly confident about the chances of Kevin Cobbold’s greyhound. While Rambo does have a bit to find with Farley Rio on his semi final performance, I fancy his shrewd handler will have the dog spot on when it comes to the final on Thursday night. Betfred go a stand out price of 4/1 about the orange jacket and that rates as a value bet in my book.

Kelly Macari’s Pinpoint Finas is the odds on favourite for this Gain Feeds Sprint and that is understandable after the way he won at Sheffield last time when beating another of tonight’s rivals, Bowtime Fella by three and a half lengths. The four dog is no back number however and is a bit of value against the blue jacket at the 5/1 mark. I like the fact that this runner from the Drake kennels has had a trial here at Donny last week and while I’m not sure that is quite worth over three lengths, I’m willing to take a chance at the price.

The bookie make this 450m contest a match between the one and two dogs with Charlie Lister’s Golden Wonder heading the betting at the 6/4 mark. Bush Standard in the blue jacket is next best at 3s, but I’m going to take on the principles with 9/2 shot Sidaz Harris. This greyhound plys his trade all over the country and did manage a couple of wins at the highest level over the summer. It’s interesting that his handler has gone to the trouble of giving Sidaz three trials round here over the past few weeks and I fully expect a big run from trap three.

Betfred go 2/1 joint favourite here, with Crazy Weasley and Worsboro Jaykay set to battle it out for the winner’s purse of £500. I’m going with the Worsboro with the best of the draw in trap one to gain some compensation for an early St leger exit. The 41.62 this greyhound ran in a trial here over course and distance in September stands up quite well and I think the 2/1 is decent enough value considering this evening’s opposition.
