The final of the William St Leger is the highlight of this evening’s superb card from Wimbledon, which also features the RFS Puppy Derby final. All the action can be seen live on Sky Sports 2 from 7:30pm, with a total of eight open races being broadcast. The Hayley Keightley trained Roxholme Dream is unbeaten in three races in this competition, and has been put in as the 11/8 favourite to capture the 2014 William Hill St Leger crown. This bitch has beaten her key market rivals in her journey to the final and for me, the price on offer is more than fair. Chicago, Millwards Teddy and King Kane have all seen the rear of Roxholme Dream in recent weeks and the only potential danger looks to be the draw, with four wide runners in the line up. On that basis, Seamus Cahill’s Chicago looks well drawn on the inside, but has a full eight and a quarter lengths to make up with the jolly on their semi final clash from Friday.

The opening race on tonight’s card is a 273m sprint where Liz McNair’s Wee Tiger Tots will be looking to bounce back to form after a couple of particularly below par efforts at Belle Vue and Nottingham last month. This bitch does have the best of the draw in trap six, but her recent form puts me off taking a short price about this one. I am keen on the chances of the three dog, Mustang Blitz here. This greyhound took a tumble at Sittingbourne on October 19th but had been in good order prior to that and his defeat of Cheers Tony reads very well indeed. Mustang trialled well over course and distance last week, and can return to winning ways this evening.

A massive value play here. The four dog Forest Sara is only a 3/1 chance with bet365, on my tissue, I made Kevin Hutton’s runner a 7/2 shot on the basis of her very good trial over C&D last month. William Hill have put this bitch in at 13/2! I don’t expect that price to last long, and is definitely worth an interest. Both Aero Babooshka and Borna Karma have questions marks as they are both quite inconsistent sorts, and I’ve got to be with the black jacket at the price.

A short priced favourite in the shape of Fizzypop Magic in trp six and although well beaten in the Leger heats last time, this bitch has some solid numbers in these stayers events. I’m personally very keen on the chances of Mays Petal, and actually expected to see her at a lot shorter than the 11/4 bet365 have chalked up. Hills go just 13/8 about the white jacket, and I believe that is a more accurate reflection of her chances. Mays Petal appears to be better the further she goes and can add to her already impressive record.

A really competitive looking event on paper but I have to be with Screen Critic to come out on top over his favourite course and distance. The 2013 Derby finalist has been in solid form over the last couple of months and his runs behind Jet Stream Smurf look particularly solid. Betfred go a standout price of 4/1 which looks massive to me. King Dec, who has the best of the draw in trap one, would be the biggest threat for me but he won’t necessarily get an easy time of it and the black jacket can return to winning ways on a cracking evening of greyhound racing.
