Kent Derby winner Lenson Bolt added the Romford Puppy Cup to his titles on Friday night when successfully lowering the colours of odds on favourite Westmead Carl. Westmead Carl had beaten Lenson Bolt in their Semi Final encounter but Tony Collett’s charge got his revenge when it counted in the £8,000 final.
Droopys Flo Jo was away from the boxes fastest but was soon joined by the two market leaders and could ultimately just finish a well beaten third. Lenson Bolt took a small advantage going into the third corner and managed to hold on. He won at odds of 5/2 beating the 10/11f Westmead Carl by half a length in a time of 24.11sec.
After the race, Tony Collett said;
“He’s got me out of a bit of trouble,” “the connections were certainly getting a bit anxious, but he’s done it when it mattered.”
“I think it’s quite clear that he prefers a bigger gallop and he’s no longer a puppy after next Thursday, but we’d be hopeful of a place in the Racing Post Juvenile next year.”
