Two excellent meetings in store this evening on RPGTV, with both Newcastle and Crayford hosting some top class dog racing. The final of the Carlsberg Kent St Leger takes place at Crayford, while at Newcastle we have the semi finals of the All England Cup as well as the Northern Puppy Derby. The finals of those competitions will be shown on Sky Sports this coming Wednesday. Here are our best bets for this evening’s live dog racing.

The Carlsberg Export Hurdle is an open race run over a 380m trip and looks very much a match between traps one and six on paper. Betfair are the only bookmaker to have priced this one up at time of writing and they have put the striped jacket Soviet Military in as their 5/4 favourite. Rick Holloway’s greyhound has a superb record over the course and distance and a wealth of experience over hurdles. He was very disappointing at Sittingbourne last time out, but had won his six previous starts. I’m going to take Soviet Military on for the simple fact that Jetstream Reason has much the best of the draw. The six dog has two other wide runners on his inside and the five in particular is capable of trapping very well. Steve Gammon’s charge has no such issues however and should get a clear run round on the inside. The 13/8 available looks like a value bet.

Kelly Macari’s Pinpoint Maxi did it nicely enough in the opening round of this William Hill All England Cup, scoring in a time of 28.64. Still relatively lightly raced, this greyhound has a very good strike rate indeed and I can see why the bookies have put the two dog in at a shade of odds on here. That being said, local runner Maum Legend is a bet for me at the prices. The four dog can be backed at 11/4 with both Betfred and Ladbrokes and when you consider his record of three wins and two seconds from five starts over this course and distance, those odds make plenty of appeal. There’s a chance that Pinpoint Maxi could be the meat in the sandwich between the two runners either side of him and I’m taking Jimmy Wright’s dog to cause a small upset.
