The Greyhound Board of Great Britain has welcomed the recent COVID-19 Roadmap which has been released by the Government. A planned lifting of existing restrictions could see spectators return to Greyhound Racing Stadiums in the UK as soon as May 17th. Numbers would initially be limited to 4,000 or half of the stadium capacity, whichever is lower. Food and drink facilities including trackside restaurants may also be able to resume at the same time. As is the case with the best online casino, punters will be welcomed back to dog tracks with open arms.
Mark Bird, the Managing Director of GBGB has stated;
“Whilst we are delighted to see a possible total end to social distancing restrictions in June, we all have to remain cautious and not undermine the enormous amount of work that has been achieved within UK greyhound racing to enable us to be racing behind closed doors. Only last week, the GBGB reiterated to tracks and thereby to trainers and kennel hands, the continued need to remain vigilant on social distancing and use of PPE at stadia.
“We continue to work with DCMS and are currently seeking clarification as to the latest announcements and where it places greyhound racing within their intentions, both in terms of spectators and hospitality.
“We remain committed to seeing whether we can allow owners into tracks ahead of 17th May and in the meantime recognise their patience and continued support to their trainers and greyhounds.
With the potential for the complete lifting of restrictions on 21st June, we very much hope that Towcester’s plans for 2021 Derby will be fully realised which will be a total tonic for the sport.”
All those connected with the great sport of greyhound racing have their fingers well and truly crossed that the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions progress as planned. Greyhound racing desperately needs the revenue that spectators bring. It would be fitting should fans be able to be a part of the 2021 Greyhound Derby live at Towcester.
