The Blue Square TV Trophy is a greyhound competition taking placing at Sittingbourne Dog Track. The event kicks off on Saturday April 23rd with three heats before the Final on Wednesday May 4th. It’s a staying event, with races being run over a stiff 893 metre trip.
Blue Square have previously been a key supporter of greyhound racing in the UK and were sponsors of the English Greyhound Derby between 2007 and 2009. It’s great news for the sport that they are back involved sponsoring a big competition like the TV Trophy. There is £6,000 on offer to the winner of the final.
Richard Jaques, PR and Sponsorship Manager at Rank Interactive, parent company of Blue Square said; “We have a strong greyhound clientele and, at a time when other betting brands remain hesitant to back greyhounds, when offered the TV Trophy by Roger (Cearns), it was an easy decision for us. This is such an historic competition and this year’s event looks like it could be a vintage renewal.”
The TV Trophy Final will be supported by a card of top quality Open Races and all the action is due to be shown live on Sky Sports. The first stage of the Blue Square TV Trophy took place this weekend, and has set up an exciting final for Sky viewers. Chris Kyme’s Killishin Masai took the first heat in a time of 57.75sec. It was a dramatic contest with the eventual winner setting the early pace before getting pegged back, only to regain the lead at the 7th bend. Slick Sapphire made all in heat 2 and heat 3 was won by the John Mullins trained Knockies Hannah.
