Betting on Greyhounds?

Greyhound racing is a fantastic sport. The thrill of the chase, the adrenaline, and of course betting a few quid on the outcome always adds that little extra bit of excitement. Want to bet on greyhounds? Make sure to check greyhound results online at William Hill.

For those of you that haven’t bet on the dogs before and who are thinking of having a little dabble, luckily, we are here to guide you with a few tips and tricks from the experts on how to place a winning bet on the best dog on the track. Read on to find out more!

1. Know how to pick a winner. Yes, sometimes it is fun just to pick a dog that takes your fancy- perhaps they have a name that resonates with you, or something just drew you to them. But if you want to be sure to pick a winner, you need to know what to look for.

2. Check out its recent form. To get an idea of how a dog will perform, it is always a good idea to check out its form from the last five to ten races to get a fair indication of the level of the dogs’ performance. If it has won its last 5 races, you can be sure that it stands a good chance of winning again. If, however it has consistently come last, be careful and don’t bet too much on it.

3. Does the dog have class? Not in the traditional sense of the word of course, in this case class refers to the particular grade the dog will be given based on its performance in trials. Now it is important to note that some keen bettors come up with their own way of grading the dogs as their experience grows. If greyhound racing is something you are really a fan of, you could consider coming up with your own method to rate their performance in a way that makes sense to you.

4. Hedge your bets. If you are just starting out and are not a seasoned racegoer, it could be wise to place your bets on the top two, or just place an each way bet. This type of betting offers odds and therefore less cash but it can allow you to get used to the system, and the way the races work before you start splashing your cash on higher stakes. Alternatively, you can bet on a forecast which means you pick a winner and a runner up, or a reverse forecast which covers any two dogs in the top two. This type of betting does not offer big returns but offers safe and enjoyable gambling for beginners.

Remember there are many more tips and tricks out there and these are just a couple of pointers that we suggest you consider. Of course, the real fun comes from throwing yourself in head first and taking the ups with the downs and the wins with the losses. Whichever strategy you choose, we guarantee you will enjoy greyhound racing as much as we do!
