2014 Coral Sussex Cup

The Coral Sussex Cup final will take place on Tuesday 29th July and is due to be shown live on Sky Sports. We saw some very impressive performance during the initial heats of this competition at Hove last Thursday evening, and it was Guinness Spark who produced the fastest time of the night which caused Ladbrokes to cut this greyhound to odds of 12/1 to land the prestigious cup. Seamus Cahill’s dog put a disappointing effort earlier in the month behind him to beat Exocet by a neck. The runner-up was having his second outing in just three days and also came out of the race with credit.

We are now at the semi final stage and those three races will be run this Thursday at Brighton & Hove Stadium. Bubbly Gold is the current favourite for the competition and can be backed at odds of 5/1 with Ladbrokes. This lightly raced dog, trained by Paul Young, definitely still has improvement in him and looked an exciting prospect when obliging at odds of 6/4 last week. This greyhound is now three from three over course and distance and I wouldn’t put anyone off a bet in the outright market prior to the semi finals being run. I’d fully expect Bubbly Gold to progress from Heat 1 and his price will certainly contract before next week’s final should he put up another impressive display.

Heat 2 could well be a match between Forest Gavin and Sidaz Jack who have been drawn one and two. Assuming their isn’t a coming together between the two of them at any stage, I’d expect both the rails runners to progress as the greyhounds outside of them don’t quite look up to it for me. Exocet will be bidding for revenge over Guinness Spark in the third and final semi, and looking at the outright market, the bookies believe that Chris Allsopp’s runner will come out on top. I think I might be looking to stick with the two dog on the night if he is put in at bigger odds. There will be a preview of the Coral Sussex Cup final meeting next week, so stay tuned.
