We are now at the quarter final stage of the 2012 Wimbledon Greyhound Derby and all the action can be seen live from 7.30pm on Sky Sports 3. There are eight live open races including the four quarter finals, with the first race at 7.40pm and the last taking place at 9.45pm. The first three greyhounds in each quarter final heat will qualify for the semi finals on Saturday, by which point the competition will have been reduced to twelve runners.

Razldazl Jayfkay has looked impressive throughout the competition thus far and heads the outright betting at odds of 3/1 with bet365. Dolores Ruth’s greyhound broke the track record in round two and is all the rage in the third quarter final. He does have a serious rival in the shape of Bubbly Phoenix on his inside in trap five and it’s difficult to separate the pair of them.

Greyhound Derby Quarter Final Tips

8.35pm
The first quarter final of the evening sees Taylors Sky, Razldazl Bugatti and Razldazl Rioga clash in what looks a mouthwatering contest on paper. Taylors Sky looks to have the advantage from a draw perspective and although well beaten by Young Sid last time, Charlie Lister’s runner did meet trouble early in the race. Bet365 go a stand out 2/1 about the one dog and I think that’s a price well worth taking.

Back Taylors Sky @ 2/1 with bet365

8.50pm
A wide open looking race here and one where the bookies are struggling to find a favourite. While Paddy Power make Judicial Ruling their 2/1 market leader, most firms have the first four in the betting very closely matched. For me, the value could well lie with the black jacket Young Sid. He’s won four of his last five races and comes into this event a little under rated. The 7/2 on offer with Paddy Power looks big.

Back Young Sid @ 7/2 with Paddy Power

9.10pm
The race of the night sees the new track record holder and Derby favourite Razldazl Jayfkay looking to continue his fantastic form at the main expense of Bubbly Phoenix. It looks to be a match between the two wide runners and I’d have to side with the six dog to get the better of the argument going on what we have seen thus far. William Hill go 11/10 about Dolores Ruth’s runner and I can see him being odds on come race time.

Back Razldazl Jayfkay @ 11/10 with William Hill

9.25pm
Definitely the weakest of the four quarter finals and the Mark Wallis trained Blonde Snapper may well be able to take advantage of being drawn in six. Traps one to five are all railers and although Blonde Snapper is a middle runner, he could well stay out of trouble on the outside and claim a comfortable victory.

Back Blonde Snapper @ 11/4 with Bet Victor

This year’s Greyhound Derby kicks off on Friday 27th April with 132 dogs battling it out for the £125,000 first prize. Sponsor’s William Hill have now made the event the world’s richest greyhound competition and it really is a fantastic reward for the winning connections. The first round of the competition comprises 22 heats, 8 of them where the first 5 qualify and 14 heats where the first 4 greyhounds make it through to the second round. Heat 1-11 take place on Friday night with 12-22 being run on Saturday. The fact so few greyhounds are eliminated from the competition at the first round stage means it’s a nice introduction to the track for most of them and allows for some of the more fancied runners to experience a bit of trouble and still possibly make it through.

Winner of the 2011 Wimbledon Greyhound Derby Taylor’s Sky is favourite to make it back to back wins in the competition. William Hill make the Charlie Lister trained runner a 6/1 chance for the Wimbledon showpiece. He was so impressive in last year’s event and has looked as good as ever thus far this season winning a Derby trial here on the 7th April and there is no reason why last year’s champion can’t go close again. Razldazl Jayfkay is another leading contender for this year’s crown. Dolores Ruth’s runner has some very solid form at the Wimbledon track and I liked his performance when beating Shelbourne Geoff here at the end of March. While Taylor’s Sky would make more appeal to me at the respective prices, Razldazl maybe improve as the competition progresses and can’t be discounted.

Scottish Derby winner Barefoot Allstar is definitely value for the 2012 Wimbledon Greyhound Derby at a best price of 25/1 with bet365. Paul Hennessy’s greyhound was well backed in the final and looks open to plenty of improvement. He’d be my each way selection for Wimbledon glory.

Back Taylor’s Sky @ 6/1 with William Hill

Sky Sports are really getting behind greyhound racing and tonight there is yet another meeting live on Sky Sports 2 from 7.30pm. The Bettor.com Peterborough Puppy Derby Final at 9.45pm is the highlight of the evening but there are seven other decent looking open races on the card and greyhound fans are in for a real treat tonight.

The Chris Allsopp trained Smart Bid heads the betting for tonight’s big race at odds of 7/4 with bet365. He’s won both his races in the competition thus far and looked particularly impressive in his first heat, winning by six and three quarter lengths and recorded the fastest time thus far with a 24.89. The greyhound followed that up with an all the way success in the semi final which saw him get the better of the slightly unlucky Be Real who re-opposes tonight. The negative for the five dog is the draw and all but on of the field will be looking to get to the rails. Even Farneys Mark from trap six is a middle runner and the race definitely has the potential for trouble. I personally like the chances of the black jacket, Newinn Rocket. Winner of the Monmore Puppy Derby, Pat Rosney’s greyhound won both his heat and semi final and arguably has the better of the draw than main rival Smart Bid. The 9/4 on offer with bet365 is worth taking.

9.45pm Peterborough
Back Trap 4 Newinn Rocket @ 9/4 with bet365

8.35pm Peterborough
Arguably the race of the night here with a field of top class greyhounds. While I very much respect the chances of the ultra consistent Fancy Socks coming from trap three, I think track record holder Mountjoy Rock is going to be very tough to beat. Winner of the Peterborough Derby, Elaine Parker’s dog is a serious animal and I think the 7/4 on offer with bet365 is decent value.

Back Trap 4 Mountjoy Rock @ 7/4 with bet365

9.10pm Peterborough
There are a couple of runners with plenty of home experience here including Turibius and Three Steps winner Clerihan Gold but the greyhound a like is the four dog Airforce Newyork. He’s not had an awful lot of runs since been recruited from Ireland but has looked classy thus far and should have too much for the local dogs.

Back Trap 4 Airforce Newyork @ 7/4 with bet365

There is some cracking greyhound action tonight live on Sky Sports 2 from Hall Green with the Ladbrokes Blue Riband Final taking centre at 9.45pm. The Paul Young trained Young Sid is the 2/1 favourite for this event following his unbeaten run to the final having won two races over the 480m trip with the minimum of fuss. He was particularly impressive last time when finding trouble early in the race only to recover and win by half a length. Ten Large Down finished second on that occasion and does have the better of the draw tonight but shouldn’t really be able to reverse the form on what we have seen thus far. Chris Allsopp’s Bandicoot Fionn may well be the value in the race coming out of the six box being the only wide runner. He came through late to win his semi final beating Sharp Bullet by a short head and he’d be my selection for forecast purposes.

9.45pm Hall GreenBack Trap 5 Young Sid @ 2/1 with William Hill

There are some interests contests elsewhere on the card and in the 8.15pm I think the Kelly Findlay trained Local Dee Jay can bounce back to form following a disappointing effort here last time. He’s a lot better than he showed on that occasion and is well worth another chance at the generous looking price of 15/8 bet365 are offering.

In the 9.25pm event, Trap 2 Graigues Orchard has to be the selection. The blue jacket ran well last time to finish third behind Young Sid last time out when meeting trouble in running from a bad draw. Stuart Mason’s greyhound can make amends tonight.

The Bettor.com Scottish Derby Final meeting from Shawfield is live tonight on Sky Sports 4 from 8pm. As well as the big race at 10:15pm, there is a whole host of open race action for greyhound racing fans to enjoy. The 2012 Scottish Derby Final looks a wide open event with the bookmakers struggling to separate the first four dogs in the market off the back of last week’s semi finals. When I recently previewed this event I tipped Tudor Prince and I’m going to stick with Harry Williams’ greyhound. He was just touched off by Bowtime Sykes in the semis but he has a better draw tonight and has arguably been the most consistent dog throughout the competition. Mill Pegasus is the likely danger to my selection off the back of his impressive semi final victory but the 7/2 available on the Prince makes plenty of appeal.

Scottish Derby Final Tip

Back Tudor Prince @ 7/2 with William Hill
There looks to be some decent value elsewhere on tonight’s card and hopefully we can make it another profitable evening. Here is a look at some of the other Shawfield races.

8:45pm Shawfield
Although the unbeaten Farloe Warhawk will be all the rage for this particular event, I think the value lies with the five dog, Greenwell Thor. A repeat of his trial here last month would certainly give the short priced favourite something to think about and the early 7/2 available with Betfred for the orange jacket looks big to these eyes. Farloe is odds on with most firms which seems a bit stingy and therefore worth opposing.

Back Greenwell Thor @ 7/2 with Betfred

9:20pm Shawfield
Blue Artisan was turned over at short odds here last time and should be opposed again here. Mags Gamble was super impressive when winning over course and distance last time out and I think he’s huge value at 9/4 with Bet Victor to follow up. Take the price it won’t last, my Nap of the night. Bet365 are as short as 13/8.

The Carling Chrome 3 Steps To Victory Final is tonight’s big race at Sheffield and all the all action can be seen live on Sky Sports 4 from 7.30pm. William Hill make Meadow Bank Owl their 2/1 favourite following an excellent display in the semi final here when beating Clerihan Gold by three and three quarter lengths. Barrie Draper’s dog is yet to run over this trip but has shown plenty of decent form around this track and the fact he was staying on well last time over 500m leads me to believe this 660m trip won’t pose too many problems. The obvious danger looks to be coming from Bowtime Joey in trap two. We know Stuart Mason’s dog definitely gets this trip which is something we cannot say about the other runners in the field. Although he was well beaten by Meadow Bank Owl last time out, he did not get the run of the race and considering the trouble he found in running, did well to finish so close to the winner. I think Bowtime Joey has a great chance of reversing that form, particularly over this longer trip. I recommend taking the 11/4 that is on offer with Paddy Power about the two dog.

Tonight’s other live Sky Greyhound Races

20:00
Mr Chow looks like a value bet at 3/1 with bet365. This greyhound should definitely be suited by the step up in trip and I was expecting him to be a fair bit shorter for this contest. Skybet only go 7/4, so take the 3s while it is available.

Back Mr Chow @ 3/1 with bet365

20:15
I believe there is more value to be had here in the shape of the six dog, Sharp Hawk. The only wide runner in the race, he should get a decent passage through and can follow up his win last time at rewarding odds. William Hill go 9/2 which seems very fair.

Back Sharp Hawk @ 9/2 with William Hill

21:25
The Nap of the evening for me is Head Iton Hayesy wearing the red jacket in the penultimate live Sky race. He had a nightmare run at Shawfield last time out but his record here is exemplary and I strongly fancy this greyhound to make the most of his good draw.

The 2012 Bettor.com Scottish Greyhound Derby is now at the semi final stage and there are a whole host of greyhound still in with a chance of winning the £25,000 first prize. The semi finals take place tomorrow night the 7th April at Shawfield Stadium, with the final being held on April 13th. The big race will be live next Friday night on Sky Sports 4. All the heats and the final of this competition are contested over a trip of 480m.

The Charlie Lister trained Boher Paddy was very impressive in the quarter finals when beating Mill Pegasus and made it two wins from two in this event in the process. He clocked a time of 29.04s which was the best of the evening and Betfred now make this greyhound their 7/4 favourite to win the competition outright. Tudor Prince has also won both his heats in the 2012 Scottish Greyhound Derby and is now second favourite at a best price of 4/1 with William Hill. This son of Westmead Hawk seems to be enjoying the trips to Scotland and will pose a serious threat to Boher Paddy.

As the draw for the semi finals has kept Boher Paddy and Tudor Prince apart, everything is set up for a possible classic encounter between these two greyhounds. While it may not be quite that straightforward, on what these dogs have achieved thus far in the competition, you would have to say they are the likely winners of their respective semi finals. As an outright bet for the 2012 Bettor.com Scottish Derby, I think it might be worth siding with Tudor Prince from a value perspective.

A double header tonight to enjoy from Racing Post Greyhound TV. To see all the action from Crayford and Romford, simply tune in on Sky Channel 231, or Freesat Channel 402. The coverage starts at 7.15pm and runs right the way through till 10.45pm and the best part is, it’s completely free! Crayford is a mixed graded card while 11 of the 13 races from Romford are open events. Six of which are heats for the Millennium Stand Bookmakers Golden Sprint. There are a number of short priced favourites this evening but I think I’ve managed to identify a couple of value plays where one winner would see us in profit.

21:06 Romford
The sixth and final heat of the Golden Sprint over 400m sees the Keith Allsop trained Slick Sian put in as the favourite at a best price of 5/2 with William Hill. Wearing the black jacket coming out of trap four tonight, this bitch has been very impressive winning her last four starts over this course and distance. She won here last week when beating Soviet Jessie and does hold every chance tonight. The reason why I am opposing Slick Sian tonight is the fact I think there is basically nothing between her and the three dog Nans Turbo. This greyhound was beaten by the four dog on the 9th of March here but had a nightmare run and has since shown his true form winning his last two starts very well. Their winning times are very similar and I think as a punter you have to be backing the three dog tonight at odds of 7/2 with bet365.

22:26 Romford
The penultimate race on Romford’s card this evening is a stayers event run over a trip of 575m. There are three dogs that are likely to be contesting for favouritism come race time but currently, only bet365 have priced the event up and they make trap one Bridge Jane their 5/2 market leader. This bitch showed improved form last time to finish second to Aero Joker and for me, a repeat of that effort could well be good enough. There are four rail runners here so the red jacket could be a good advantage for Bridge Jane and I don’t think 5/2 is a bad price at all. Head Iton Tom and Mountjoy Eagles are respected but I just feel that tonight is likely too be a good one for the favourite.

Nap – Nans Turbo 21:06 Romford @ 7/2 with bet365

To watch tonight’s live dog racing, simply tune in on Sky Channel 231, or Freesat Channel 402. The show begins at 7.15pm, with the first live race going off at 7.25pm. The last event of the evening is the 10.26 from Hove. Both cards include 12 races and there are a total of 19 open races for punters to get stuck into.

19:54 Henlow
A very decent sprint race here over 277m, the Easter Dash will definitely be a fast and furious contest. The betting is headed by the two dog Funny Lari. William Hill make this greyhound a 5/4 chance which for me is a little on the skinny side on the back of a couple of fairly disappointing runs. He didn’t run a bad race over course and distance to finish third last time but he was poor at Romford earlier last month and I think the value lies with trap four, the Eric Cantillon trained Blackrose George. He’s more than capable over this course and distance and although the four dog might not have the ideal draw, I think he can get away from five and six early and is value at the 7/2 mark with bet365
22:03 Henlow
My old friend Ballymac William is out again and I definitely think he’s a value bet at 6/4 with Betfred. Elsewhere, Dean Childs’ runner is only even money which is more the like the price I was expecting. With a very nice draw in trap one, the multiple course and distance winner should be very hard to beat. The obvious danger comes from the five dog, Blackrose Bullet. Although his form is fairly consistent at this level, Eric Cantillon’s dog just doesn’t win enough races for me and at the prices, trap one is the greyhound to be one in this particular contest.
