An excellent start to our greyhound racing tips on Racing Post Greyhound TV as our fancy in the 9.24 at Romford, Slick Seamist, won well at 9/4 beating the odds on favourite Sequential. My other fancy Curragh Kewell did get to run due to the unfortunate trap problems at the track. Tonight’s live action comes from Crayford who hold the first six heats of the Golden Jacket, and Newcastle are putting on a high quality graded card. If you want to watch the live dog racing tonight in the comfort of your own home, just tune into Racing Post Greyhound TV on Sky Channel 231, or Freesat Channel 402. The coverage starts at 7.15pm and runs right the way through till 10.45pm and the best part is, it’s completely free!

11 of the 12 races at Crayford tonight are Opens and in addition to the Golden Jacket heats, there are some other interesting events over 540m. Newcastle is a graded card sponsored by William Hill, with five A1 contests on the 12 race card.

The Golden Jacket is an event I really enjoy each year and being my local track, I like to go along to Crayford, especially when there is top class dog racing like this on offer. The race I can’t wait to watch is the 9.40 where favourite in the outright market for the Golden Jacket Express Trend takes on last year’s winning connections with their runner Bush Whitney. Although I fancy Bush Whitney to get the run of the race in Trap 6, over this type of distance it likely won’t be a huge advantage being the only wide runner in the race. Express Trend has that bit more class and it should tell tonight. The early price of 5/4 with bet365 is good value as far as I’m concerned. Elizabeth McNair’s runner is currently a best priced 9/2 chance to win the competition with bet365.

My next best of the evening is another short one but a dog I still think represents value on the back of his last run here. Farley Jack can be backed at 5/4 with bet365 for the 8.02 contest and when you consider the ease with which he beat Bush Whitney last weekend over course and distance, you’d have to be taking odds against about the Billingham trained runner. The danger could well be the unexposed Bubbly Swallow coming out of the 4 box and would make up my forecast.

Nap – Express Trend 9.40 Crayford @ 5/4 with bet365

NB – Farley Jack 8.02 Crayford @ 5/4 with bet365

Tonight’s live action from Racing Post Greyhound TV comes from Romford and Sunderland. You need to tune in to either Sky Channel 231 or Freesat Channel 402 to watch all the exciting greyhound racing live every Thursday to Saturday from 7:15pm to 10:45pm. The channel is free to air so no subscription costs are involved and you can now watch live greyhound racing in the comfort of your own home three nights a week!

The pick of tonight’s action comes from Romford with a 13 race card where every race is an Open contest. The Maiden Stayers race at 9.06 looks particularly interesting and could well provide some useful clues for staying races at the track in the weeks ahead. Sunderland is a graded card sponsored by William Hill, the pick of which could well be the last race of the evening which is an A2 contest over 450m.

Nap of the evening for me goes in the 10.26 at Romford in the shape of the Dean Childs trained Curragh Kewell. On offer at a best early price of 5/4 with bet365, this dog ran a big race last time when finishing second to Munster Champ over course and distance. He met a bit of interference at the first bend there but finished very well and I can’t see much in tonight’s line up to trouble this son of Ballymac Kewell.

In Romford’s 9.24 I’m going to take on the favourite Sequential with Keith Allsop’s Slick Seamist. Although Sequential rattled off three wins in quick succession round here in December and is a very decent bitch, I don’t think Slick Seamist is very far behind and probably still has a bit of improvement in her. The value bet of the evening for me at 9/4 with Ladbrokes (as short as 7/4 in places).

Nap – Curragh Kewell 10.26 Romford @ 5/4 with bet365

NB – Slick Seamist 9.24 Romford @ 9/4 with Ladbrokes

The competition began with heats at Doncaster Greyhound Stadium in November, and saw six teams battle it out for a place in the Greyhound Premier League. In much the same way snooker and darts have used the Premier League format to appeal to a wider audience, the Greyhound Owners’ Breeders’ And Trainers’ Association (GOBATA) are hoping that this will appeal to people that might not normally be fans of greyhound racing.

The Premier League season is spread over eight weeks and consists of four legs. Each of these legs is a kind of mini trainers championship, with five races taking place and points awarded dependant on finishing positions. The fourth leg will be Grand Finals night where the team at the top of the league will be awarded the Premier League title, while the two bottom placed teams will be relegated to the Championship.

Each leg is made up of the following five races;
2 standard four-bend races
1 puppy four-bend race
1 stayers race
1 sprint race

The event is run over a trip of 714 metres and this year’s competition get under way on the 30th January. This is a staying event which suits greyhounds that get a decent trip. There are a number of races over the 714m distance at Crayford throughout the year and dogs based at the track obviously have an advantage when it comes to the Golden Jacket.

Trial’s for the 2012 Ladbrokes Golden Jacket began this past weekend with three races providing clues for the competition. The Maxine Locke trained Honeypound Joe took the opening race in a time of 46.42. The odds on favourite experience one or two problems during the race but eventually won by a comfortable three and a half length margin. Honeypound Joe is a 20/1 chance for the main prize with sponsors Ladbrokes.

7/1 shot Bold Misty sprung a surprise in the second trial of the day when winning by just under five lengths in a time of 46.39. Attempting the trip for the first time, Julie Luckhurst’s bitch looked rather impressive and earns a quote of 33/1 off the back of that success. The third and final Golden Jacket trial saw by far the best performance of the day when U Make Me Smile, also trained by Luckhurst, won by more than five lengths in a time of 45.75. This runner is now sure to be popular with punter and is still available at a generous looking 25/1 with the sponsors.

The 2011 Golden Jacket was won by the Kelly Findlay trained Bush Paddy. The same connections send 10/1 second favourite Bush Whitney into battle for this year’s event. Already a winner of seven open races during her short career, this bitch holds strong claims.

The big race of the night is the final of the Coronation Cup which sees the Russell Senior trained Rockview Sail as the odds on favourite following a scintillating performance in the semis. He defeated Judicial Academy by seven lengths in a time of 35.48secs, which was the fastest of the three semi final heats.

Coming out of trap one, the Derek Knight trained Rockin Roses was the winner of the second heat in 35.71, while Fatboyz Pacquiao managed to avoid all the trouble and seal victory in the final heat with a time of 35.76. Could he get a similar passage through in tonight’s final?

There are eight races live on Sky this evening with the action getting under way at 7.40pm.

Coronation Cup Tips

Rockview Sail looks like he’s going to be very hard to beat here. This dog holds a superb record at Romford with six wins from seven starts, should not be troubled by the draw and is versatile enough to come from off the pace and win. The race could work out well for Fatboyz Pacquiao in the six box and it would be no surprise to see this unexposed greyhound make up the forecast.

The first round heats of this year’s Yorkshire St Leger saw Kelly Findlay’s Fleeting Image record a time of 41.53 seconds and jump to the head of the ante post betting market in the process. bet365 have installed Fleeting Image as the 5/2 market leader for the event. The Charlie Lister trained Lonely Boy was a little disappointing in his heat on Friday night and the 4/7f could only manage third place after being forced to check at the 4th bend. The bookmakers are taking no chances with Lister’s charge however and he is still at the business end of the market as the 3/1 second favourite.

Curragh Kewell (41.94sec), Droopys Arshavin (41.98sec) and Wonder Wag (42.14sec) were the winners of the three other heats. None of them came close to the time Fleeting Image posted and it will be very interested to see if the Findlay runner can perform to the same level out of trap one in the semis.

The semi finals take place this Friday night 11th November, with the final taking place live on Sky Sports on Wednesday November 16th. There is £8,000 up for grabs and it’s sure to be a cracking night of live Sky action.

The 2011 Romford Puppy Cup gets under way on Monday 12th September with six heats. The event takes place at Romford Greyhound Stadium and is run over a trip of 400m. There is £8,000 on offer to the winning greyhound. The semi finals of the competition will be held on Friday 16th September with the final taking place on the following Friday 23rd September.

Eden Star is the strong market leader for the event being installed as the 2/1 favourite. The Barrie Draper trained pup is already being well touted for next year’s Greyhound Derby and is on offer at 20/1 with bet365 for that particular event. The son of Top Savings has already won the williamhill.com Puppy Derby at Wimbledon this year and although 2/1 might seem like it’s on the short side, Eden Star’s proven form in this sphere means it could well look like value come the 23rd September.

<a href='http://www.ladbrokes.com/ast?action=go_asset&aff_id=34283&asset_id=47'target='_blank'><img src='http://www.ladbrokes.com/ast?action=asset_req&imgonly=1&aff_id=34283&asset_id=47'width='468' height='60' border='0' alt=''/>

Jim Daly’s Fire Food Chilli is the 5/1 co second favourite on the back of his recent success in the Coral Champions Night Puppy Standard Final. That will certainly stand the young greyhound in good stead for this year’s Romford Puppy Cup and he’s improved tremendously since his debut at Romford in June.

The very lightly raced Slick Santiago is the other co second favourite with Coral. Keith Allsop’s charge has only run five times thus far but he already has two victories to his name and most recently finished second to Sequential in an open race at Romford. Despite that result, the bookies make Santiago half the price of Sequential who rates a 10/1 chance.

William Hill have given the greyhound racing industry a massive shot in the arm with their announcement regarding the 2012 greyhound derby. Not only are the bookmaker to continue their sponsorship of the event, they are also going to increase the prize money to the winning greyhound quite dramatically. The 2012 William Hill Derby winner will now collect £125,000 which is a full £50,000 more than this year’s champion.

William Hill chief executive Ralph Topping told the Racing Post;

“I considered one case to go up to £100k, and despite the difficult economic climate, we were looking at this. Given the fact 2012 is a showcase Olympic year, we all felt it all the more important to do something special and exciting for greyhound racing – and do our bit to put the race back at the top.

“Never mind £ 75,000, or £100,000, the 2012 first prize for the williamhill.com Derby is to be £125,000 to the winner. It is now the world’s richest greyhound race – we intend to help make it the world’s greatest race again too.”

The 2012 Greyhound Derby gets under way in May next year at Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium. Current Ante Post favourite for the event is Taylors Sky who is a general 16/1 chance at time of writing.

Micky Robbie 10.05 Swindon
Micky Robbie won in very impressive fashion in the semi final of this competition last time and looks fair value at odds against. He has the plum draw in trap 1 and a reproduction of his last run would see him go clear of the only other rails runner McGahon Toots and more than likely lead all the way. Kennel mate and probably danger Vatican Seamus can pose a big threat but I just feel Micky Robbie will have the edge tonight.

2pts win Micky Robbie

Fabulous Magic 8.58 Monmore
This Ladbrokes.com open race contested over 630 meters can go the way of the only wide runner in the race Fabulous Magic. Likely favourite Glenagower Champ should improve for the step back up in trip but could well find trouble in running. Fabulous Magic should be able to take advantage of his good draw and get a clear passage to victory. At 9/2 on the tissue, this bitch rates a good price and solid win bet.

1pt win Fabulous Magic
